Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun as well as informative Who doesn't like dinosaurs? The lectures are entertaining and the graphics, photos, and animations are very good. Dr.Rogers is an engaging lecturer. I've put the videos on pause several times to examine taxonomy graphs (and cool images of dinosaur reconstructions) more closely. The discussion of why modern birds are dinosaurs was great. One the most fascinating explanations was why birds are considered dinosaurs: because there's no other place to fit them in the taxonomy of living organisms. I was aware of the "birds are dinosaurs" conclusion before, but I hadn't known many of the reasons, such as "extinct" genes in modern birds are associated with the production of teeth and long tails in reptiles, including dinosaurs. I've only played 10 of the 24 lectures so far, but I'm going to definitely finish the series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The spoken audio doesn't match video I couldn't make it past the first lecture, although it looked interesting because the instructors speaking was out of sync with the video.... drives me crazy. If that's not an issue for you I'm sure it will be an enjoyable course

The Dinosauria certainly puts us humans into context, and drives home the point about how lucky all of us are to have relatives that squeaked through that most recent mass extinction event 66 million years ago.

Kristi Curry Rogers is a dinosaur paleontologist and a Professor of Biology and Geology at Macalester College. She earned her PhD in Anatomical Sciences from Stony Brook University. She conducted a detailed study of sauropod dinosaurs inhabiting the island of Madagascar, which resulted in the discovery and naming of two new sauropod dinosaur genera, Rapetosaurus and Vahiny. She has published more than 45 research papers and coauthored the book The Sauropods: Evolution and Paleobiology.
