Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting history of advances in physics This series of 12 lectures reviewed the evolution of Physics from Aristotle to current times. With each advance came a new and better understanding of how the physical world works. These new findings increase our knowledge by giant steps. I never thought much of this evolution of knowledge but I now have a better understanding of how far we have advanced from Aristotle's view. Steven Gimbel suggested we have a long way to go before we can fill all the gaps in our theories of how our physical world actually works. I agree.

Dr. Gimbel explains the science in a clear fashion, simplified enough to grasp what is need for the philosophical discussions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent course; Mind blowing ideas Although much of the actual physics was over my head, the Professor was able to make most of it comprehensible and relevant. I admit I had to watch it twice, the second time really getting a better understanding of the subject, especially in a historical context. Some of the graphics really helped. The ideas that were proposed kept me pondering well after each lesson. I’m sure I’ll watch it again at some point. The Professor was engaging and thoroughly articulate. At times, he was witty and funny. Never boring. One of the best courses I’ve watched.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this! I have an unlimited subscription to Wondrium for a year and it is terrific. I have been taking a quick look at some of the courses, but this one I could tell right away I would binge watch. I am a retired petroleum and environmental geologist who has always felt there was this big hole in my love of science, and I am realizing this hole is philosophy. I thought I would never enjoy the subject, but I was wrong. I now understand why I don't understand quantum mechanics, but it is awesome that we must view existence with humility and our limitations. Prof. Gimbel is engaging and a hoot, both hallmarks of a great teacher.

Professor Steven Gimbel holds the Edwin T. Johnson and Cynthia Shearer Johnson Distinguished Teaching Chair in the Humanities at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, where he also serves as Chair of the Philosophy Department. He received his bachelor's degree in Physics and Philosophy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and his doctoral degree in Philosophy from the Johns Hopkins University, where he wrote his dissertation on interpretations and the philosophical ramifications of relativity theory. At Gettysburg, he has been honored with the Luther W. and Bernice L. Thompson Distinguished Teaching Award. Professor Gimbel's research focuses on the philosophy of science, particularly the nature of scientific reasoning and the ways that science and culture interact. He has published many scholarly articles and four books, including Einstein's Jewish Science: Physics at the Intersection of Politics and Religion; and Einstein: His Space and Times. His books have been highly praised in periodicals such as The New York Review of Books, Physics Today, and The New York Times, which applauded his skill as "an engaging writer...[taking] readers on enlightening excursions...wherever his curiosity leads."
