Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting pilot! It is interesting to learn about how Olympics got it start - which is pretty ancient than the rise of modern Olympic games of 20th century. It is good addition to introductory courses here in Wondrium with a professor who is an expert of Roman and Greek history.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aldrete brings the ancient games to life Gregory S. Aldrete is one of the best teachers on Wondrium. In a lively and engaging conversational manner he delivers a crafted story as if talking off the cuff, plucking bon mots out of thin air. Here he shares his amazing depth of knowledge and insight about the ancient Olympics and other Hellenic games that leaves you wanting more. I also enjoyed and highly recommend his Rise of Rome and Roman Empire full series. He is an inspired guide to the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great short history of the original olympics As with other reviewers, I found this to be an unexpected delight. Short, fun, exposition of what was one of the first professional (not amateur) sports venues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Entertaining and Unexpected I watched this lecture out of idle curiosity, and found it an unexpected delight. Before there was television, before there were gold medals and cereal endorsements, there were Olympic Games. Dr. Aldrete takes us back to the modest beginninng, when the competition consisted of a single footrace held in honor of the Greek god Zeus. As his entertaining and enlightening story unfolds, you will be surprised -- perhaps shocked, or even scandalized -- but your outlook on the Olympics will be forever changed. Even for those who are not particularly enthusiastic athletic fans, this lecture is well worth watching.
