Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely disappointed! I am extremely disappointed with this course. It consists mainly of the instructor talking about a few of her paintings in a monotone voice, without specific instruction or insights. There are a couple of conceptual hints for advanced painters, but not much on how to actually paint using watercolors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing course. Mary is so talented. I am a long time oil painter but in COVID I have been trying my hand at watercolors. Mary’s demonstrations are well thought out as her explanations and intelligent approach. I am a retired art teacher with an MFA from Pratt in painting so there is always room to learn! Thank you Mary!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too basic. Too much talking and not much demonstration. I agree with some of the other reviewers...a piece from start to finish would have been good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learned great techniques! Mary was such a good instructor and gave some really art-changing instruction that I was thrilled to put into immediate practice such as using common household items to help give texture to my watercolor works. I liked how Mary introduced me to new products and how to use them and how to enhance the products I already have and use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful techniques I bought this course November 2018 and just watched it the past two days for the first time.. I am a water colour wannabe. The is not for beginners. It is for the water colour artist to learn some interesting techniques. This course will eventually come in handy for me and I do not regret buying it. KEM

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would like to have seen her take me through a painting from start to finish. "Show" more and "tell" less. Don't just use flowers as examples. Maybe a still life. Maybe a landscape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good basic information Good basic information on watercolor painting. Short concise lectures. I especially liked last lecture on rescuing your painting!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Techniques were not demonstrated. Products were described, but no clue as to how to use them. I felt like the presenter was teasing with things to try, but keeping it her secret on how to really do it. I found free demonstrations on line that were much more helpful.

Mary Murphy

Time’s passage is unrelenting, but art comes close to stopping it for a moment.

Mary Murphy loved art from a young age, but her initial career path took her in a different direction, towards life as an award-winning speechwriter. After 20 years behind a pen though, she picked a brush back up and the rest is history! She honed her skills training with artists such as Martha Deming and Jim McFarlane, president of the American Watercolor Society, setting up an in-home studio so she could paint nonstop. Her exuberant floral paintings began to accumulate local and national recognition and awards, and now she’s thrilled to bring her passion to the Craftsy community.
