"Harder Than the First Time"
Shannon Mather grew up in the competition and convention world alongside her brother, fellow dancer, choreographer, and teacher Blake McGrath. In 2007, she and her husband created Coastal Dance Rage, a touring convention with classes in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap and Hip-Hop. Dedicated to the holistic development and technical foundation of young dancers, she founded Mather Dance Company in 2009. Based in Placentia, CA, MDC is a training ground for pre-professional dancers (ages 5-18) to study all styles of dance (Jazz, Musical Theater, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Tap, Latin Ballroom) and develop the necessary tools to achieve success in the dance industry.Shannon’s choreography has been featured on Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and the Disney movie Harriet the Spy. She’s worked with artists such as Alanis Morissette, Jason Derulo, and Christina Perri. Most recently, she directed and choreographed MDC 3, a trio comprised of Madison Smith, Diego Pasillas, and her daughter, Emma Mather, to victory on season 4 of World of Dance. As an educator, Shannon believes in training dancers to be as well-rounded and confident as they can be to thrive in their professional careers.

Shannon's choreography feels like a perfect marriage of textured contemporary and emotional lyrical. Challenge your body's limitations with unusual jumps and beautifully off-balance turns.
